An open letter to Fern Sidman
I see that you've also done some hanging out at Joe Settler's, lately.
On a hunch, I copied your comment into Word.
It was . . .
are you sitting down?
FIVE PAGES LONG!
(I didn't fiddle with anything--when I pasted the copy, it formatted itself automatically in size 10 Verdana font, in case anyone's wondering.)
So I went back to my own blog and copied just the part of your comment that I re-posted here.
And it was . . .
Yup, you guessed it . . .
Five pages long (in size 12 Georgia font).
Fern, please do all of us a favor: If you have that much to say that you're posting the functional equivalent of a post every time you comment, kindly have the courtesy to start your own blog!!!

Yup. She did the same thing at my blog, Israel At Level Ground.
I also asked that she resend a - severely edited - version (like two paras), and that was the end of it. No reply.
I believe she's working with/for Shlomo Wolman, a strongly right of center, self-styled journalist.
I will call him and request he tell her to stop spamming (her material was originally posted on his blog/website).

Oh, dear. I do believe this is my first case of "comment spam," to the best of my recollection.
Thanks for the information, and for the future phone call.
Oh, wow! You noticed that too!
JoeSettler, at five pages, it was pretty hard to miss. Oy.
Shira: Thanks!
Fern: It's considered very poor blog ettiquette to post a huge comment like that...and then blog-hop to continue spreading your message...regardless what your message is.
Jameel, you're welcome. Would that such things didn't have to be explained. Perhaps some people don't understand that derech eretz/common courtesy applies as much to communication via the Internet as to other forms of communication.
Fern, there's plenty of room in the Jewish blogosphere for people with varying politic views. (For example, DovBear, a liberal, and Ezzie, a conservative, are forever duking it out in a friendly manner.) By all means, start your own blog, and see who drops in. If you feel nervous about publicizing your views under your own name, please note that you don't have to use your real name as your blogger identity. Best of luck.
"Let there be peace and harmony amongst ourselves." Amen to that! We have enough to fast about, as it is. Best of luck.
Everybody, seeing this, I'm glad to see I'm not the only who's getting a bit bugged by Sidman's running the gauntlet of spamming. Because I'm sad to report that, she's still been pulling her shtick, posting an essay(?) of hers on my main blog too just yesterday on August 1st (good that I set the options so that it shows the posting date more clearly), and on a topic that wasn't even related to the Lebanon war, of all places. While it's nothing compared to some really sick trolling poster who called himself "r.johns" who was posting incendiary replies on one of the other blogs I maintain,* it's still getting fairly annoying. And let me guess - this aren't quite new op-eds she's writing? Either way, I too must join the chorus here and demand that she very simply put together her own blog. If she's got a Blogger account, I should think it'd be child's play to just create a blog department in turn. So for heaven's sake, Fern, do what the other fine folks here suggest and start your own blog without further ado, because posting your writing as comments is really quite redundant. Thank you!
* One more reason why I'm going to start using Haloscan comments as well as the trackback boxes, and with any luck, install a Haloscan I-frame to accompany them.
Again, er, still?! Sigh. Avi, some people just seem to have a problem showing derech eretz, common courtesy, on the Internet. Alternatively, she's simply not willing to start her own blog and build up her own readership. She'd rather just use someone else's reader base.
I get articles left at my blog also, under Fern Sidman's name. But I do not believe that the actual 'Fern Sidman' is leaving these. I believe someone else is leaving these under her name.
Oh, I believe the work and articles ARE Ms. Sidman's, but I believe some of her faithful readers or whatever are leaving the comments under her name. I could be wrong.
Lately I have received the articles via email rather than as comments. I'm not Jewish and I always enjoy reading her articles. But yes, they are exactly as they were printed originally, which is various places.
So I'm not sure the blame should go to Ms. Sidman. She may not even know this is going on.
Debbie, I suppose that's possible. I did once receive a long "spam comment" concerning a person in a field related to the topic under discussion, and I assume that the person being lauded was not the person who posted the "comment." So I maybe I should give Fern Sidman the benefit of the doubt.
